For more than a million customers across the Netherlands, Mijndomein has been a go-to provider for domains, hosting, and email services. But the company knew that many of its small business customers needed more than just a domain name—they needed a fast, easy way to get online. To bridge that gap, Mijndomein turned to Duda, building on a long-standing partnership to deliver intuitive website creation at scale.
“We mainly focus on what we call ‘non-tech-savvy’ customers,” says Martin van Dijk, Head of Products at Mijndomein. “We try to make our offers as [less] tech-savvy as possible, and make it super simple. And that’s where we find the sweet spot.”
From the start, Mijndomein focused on accessibility for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and individuals without technical experience. Duda’s drag-and-drop website builder fit seamlessly into this strategy.
“[Duda’s] builder is simple to use. It’s intuitive. [It] was the perfect fit for Mijndomein,” van Dijk explains. “We’ve actually never gotten any complaints about [Duda’s ease of use]. Customers find their way pretty much themselves. Of course, we offer a knowledge base with manuals, but nobody really needs to use it because it's super easy to use.”
This ease of use has been the cornerstone of Mijndomein’s strategy; offering websites that lower the barrier to entry for digital presence.
Mijndomein took that simplicity even further by creating a unique, AI-powered website generation flow. By combining Duda’s rich API library with AI-driven automations, Mijndomein has created a flow that generates a one-page website from scratch in just 60 seconds using nothing more than the customer’s domain name.
“When someone is ordering a domain name, [even] without the intention of building a website, we build a website for them, without the customer asking for it,” says van Dijk. “We present it as a presence. We tested this idea, and we validated it, and the results were pretty good.”
Testing proved that customers were eager to engage. “What was very surprising,” van Dijk noted, “is that we did the validation round by sending emails to customers that bought a domain name only, and in that email we presented them [with] the AI generated website [...] We saw the open rate of this email was double what we normally see [with other marketing emails].”
The speed of this innovation is partly thanks to Duda’s API infrastructure. Using Duda’s rich set of API calls combined with a low-code automation platform, Mijndomein’s product and marketing teams built the entire AI website flow themselves—without relying on developers.
“That was the cool stuff,” van Dijk recalls. “We built this automation within the product management and the marketing department ourselves without the involvement of any developers.” Looking forward, van Dijk remarked, “Now we're working towards the next step in productizing this stuff. We think we can automate 90% of this without [involving developers].”
This approach not only shortened the timeline but also showcased how flexible and adaptable Duda’s ecosystem is for partners.
For Mijndomein, the automatically generated website is just the first step in a longer customer journey. Starting from a domain, users can easily expand into a full website, add an online store, or activate booking modules tailored to service-based businesses.
“It’s a logical upsell path,” says van Dijk. “When customers start with a domain name, we try to move them towards a website maker product. That is the Duda product. And then, at a certain point of time, they want to sell their services online.”
Mijndomein also carefully tracks customer engagement to reduce churn. “So, whatever product a customer has bought, we try to measure if the customer is using the product,” van Dijk explains. “If a customer buys a product and does not use it, that’s eventually a churn risk. So, what we do is, after a period of time, we check if the customer is using the product, making baby steps there, and if not, we try to help the customer [make that first] step.”
Looking ahead, Mijndomein is preparing for a future where online visibility will depend as much on AI indexing as on traditional SEO. “I think the world's going to change from SEO, search engine optimization, to actually optimize your website to being indexed in the LLMs,” van Dijk observes. “And we really need to work on that because it is really going to change the way we search and the way we present our information on the internet.”
This vision underscores the importance of Mijndomein’s partnership with Duda. Beyond the product itself, van Dijk emphasizes the value of collaboration: “[Take] the whole idea of the AI website generation thing. We shared it with the Duda team and they helped us with selecting the proper AI commands of the API calls that we needed. And we really built out our automation flow with their help.”
For Mijndomein, the partnership is as much about people as technology. “I think Duda [is a really valuable] partner of ours, not only because of the product, but also because of the team behind it and the people that we are connected with,” van Dijk noted. “I think that is really valuable in a strategic partnership.”
